Specializing in the Care of Hand and Upper Extremity Dysfunctions

Hand and Upper Extremity Evaluation

  • Active/Passive Joint Range of motion 
  • Strength, including standardized grip and pinch testing
  • Edema and pain level
  • Sensory testing/mapping
  • Scar and wound assessment 
  • Dexterity/fine motor skills
  • Biomechanical dysfunction
  • Limitations on self care, activities of daily living and work tasks

Our main purpose is to make sure that you have the tools and skills that you need to maximize your recovery, so our treatment will include ongoing patient education and individualized care. 

Custom fabrication of form fitting orthotics (splints)

  • Protect injured or repaired structures
  • Prevent or correct deformity
  • Decrease pain and swelling
  • Enhance function
  • Increase mobility

Treatment- What to expect in hand therapy?

Your treatment may include:

  • Modalities such as heat, cold, ultrasound, TENS
  • Soft tissue mobilization, manual therapy
  • Desensitization, pain and edema reduction
  • Custom orthotic/splint fabrication
  • Serial casting to progress finger motion
  • Activity modification, adaptive device training and joint protection techniques
  • Stretching and strengthening program
